Trudy needs a foster home.
Trudy is a beautiful cat that is going to deliver her litter of kittens at any moment and needs a foster home quickly. She is an orange tiger cat and about a year old. She is very friendly, and did not complain one bit when Second Chance staff gave her a bath and an exam. If interested in fostering Trudy please call Val at Second Chance Rescue or

Thank You!

The Chesapeake dogs we rescued from Wagner were signed over and the three pups are down the road with Todd from the Chessie Rescue. He drove all night from Chicago to pick up the pups and get them into foster homes to begin the socialization process. This rescue is an awesome organization. Thank you for all of your help!
The cats, kittens and staff would like to thank Pharmacy Specialties of Sioux Falls for their generous donation of pet meds. It is greatly appreciated!
The animals and staff of SCRC thank you! |

MEET BUSTER
Our Featured Pet |
| |
This is Buster. He is an awesome 2 1/2 year old black lab. He is neutered, microchipped, and is current on all of his shots, including rabies. He loves to play fetch and likes to play with toys. He can get bored when left alone, so he needs a job to do and someone who will be home a lot. He likes all kids and we are told he is house trained. He is not an excessive barker and not a destructive chewer. Strangers are no problem for him, because he loves everyone! Buster has never hunted, but he seems very smart. He has a great energy level! He is happy to be able to run, but he also likes to be by his human and go for walks on a leash. Come and meet this great dog in the Dog Adopt room at Second Chance.

If You Can't Stand the Heat,
Neither Can Your Pet
Second Chance Rescue Center cautions pet owners as temperatures rise to summertime highs. On very hot days, owners should limit exercise of their pets to early morning or evening hours. Pets can suffer from heat exhaustion and heat stroke if left outside without proper shade and water. These conditions are very serious and could result in death. Owners should be aware of the signs of heat stress, which could include heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting, or a deep red or purple tongue. If your pet does become overheated, get him to a veterinarian immediately.
Although it is tempting to take our canine companions with us to run errands, owners should never leave a dog in the car. During warm weather, like the temperatures we've seen in recent days, the inside of a car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes, event if it's parked in the shade. Dogs can't perspire and can only dispel heat by panting and through the pads of their feet. Pets who are left in hot cars, even briefly, can suffer from heat exhaustion, heat stroke, brain damage or even death.
Don't think that just because you'll be gone "just a minute" that your pet will be safe while you're gone. To avoid any chance that your pet will succumb to the heat of a car this summer, be sure to play it safe by leaving your pet cool and refreshed at home while you're on the road. If you do happen to see a pet alone in a car during the hot summer months, alert the store management, call local animal control or Second Chance Rescue Center immediately.
