Chloe is 4 years old and she loves to come out to the shelter with her mom. She has been coming to Second Chance for a while now and she loves all the animals. She plays with the puppies and Molly (our bird) use to sit on her shoulder. Chloe likes to look at the Second Chance web-site and see all of the animals that she's made friends with. Now that it is summer with no school, Chloe's sister, Aspen is visiting the shelter animals, too. Aspen is 6 years old and she likes to give them treats. All the animals love visitors and they love friendly, smiling faces. Thank you Chloe and Aspen for helping us make sure that our shelter animals have a great day!

Safety Around Strange Dogs
~ Never pet or touch a strange dog, even if it runs up to you and seems like it might be friendly.
~ If a dog starts running toward you, don't run. Running away can make the dog want to chase after you - even if it doesn't want to hurt you, its instincts will tell it to chase.
~ If a strange dog approaches you, try to stand very still. This may be scary for a minute or 2, but often the dog will become bored and walk away. If the dog tries to sniff you, let it sniff - this is its way of checking you out.
~ Walk away from a strange dog very slowly. Don't wave your arms around or make a lot of noise because these actions will only excite the dog. Look straight ahead and not into the dog's eyes.
~ If you are very afraid of a strange dog or a strange dog tries to bite or attack you, tell an adult as soon as possible. He or she can find the dog's owner.
~ Never pet or touch a strange cat, even if it seems friendly.
~ Save your love for your own dogs and cats. You know they'll love you back!
How to Help SCRC Pets
Does your family recycle pop cans? Second Chance accepts cans for recycling to earn money to care for the dogs and cats. Our pets always need used towels and blankets. And of course you could share a bag of dog or cat food, pet toys, crates, dog beds, collars & leashes. Ask your parents if you can collect newspaper from friends and neighbors for Second Chance pets to sleep on. When you are old enough you can become a SCRC volunteer. Meanwhile, treat all animals with respect and regard and don't forget to watch our Events page for SCRC special events.
