HAPPY ENDINGS
We love to hear from the families who adopted pets from our center. Share your experience with us. Include your story and a photo so we can add it to the fun and heartwarming tales that we like to refer to as our "Happy Endings".
“BIX”
My name is Bix Greenup. My full name when I was at Second Chance was Rubix but when Scott and Diane brought me home they shortened my name. I got my new family on Memorial weekend and when I came home that Saturday morning I decided this was a pretty neat place and have been loving it since! I get to sit in the windows and look at birds, sleep in bed with my new parents and have a blast playing with my toys! I even bring some of my toys to bed with me! I want to thank Second chance for taking such good care of me while I was there and for finding me a great furever home!
Hugs and purrs…Rubix

“Max”
This is Max. We adopted him from "in-home" and are so lucky to have him. We had to put our other yellow lab to sleep in April after he was diagnosed with cancer in Feb 2010. We were devastated. Max has helped us deal with the grief with his crazy antics (counter-surfing, eating underwear and socks and then expelling them one way or another!). He's so much fun and looks so much like Fletcher. He jogs with me or my husband once a day, sometimes twice! We love him very much.
“Sammy” (formerly Atticus)
Sammy is doing great! We have had no problems with him. He gets along with our other cat, Chin Lee. Sammy went to the doctor the other day and got a clean bill of health. We enjoy Sammy very much and are happy to add him to our family.
Thank You ,
Lyle Hollenbeck and Christy Meyers
“Charlie”
Charlie was adopted from SCRC and is one spoiled dog! His owner, Teresa, gives him all the love and care he has needed since he is a special-needs pup and has been very patient in helping him be a normal and happy dog. Thanks Teresa!
“Oscar”
My name is Oscar! I LOVE my new house!!! I am such a cuddle bug to everybody and I mostly sleep! I still look like a lion though. I eat and sleep... and that's all! When they first brought me home, Dad said it was as if I had always been part of the family. I'm a good cat, but want so much attention. If you don't pet me I will get as close to you as I can. If that doesn't work then I’m on to the next family member for attention. When my family is on the computer I try sitting on it so they give me the attention instead. I sleep w/my Sister every night, snuggled up as close as I can, sometimes even trying to sleep on her neck! I don't play, but I like to watch TV. I also like to have these weird moments where I think I am running wild through the jungle.. but it is the house. Thank you for finding me on the streets and giving me a good home!

“Bonnie”
Our Miss Bonnie slept all the way home, and then had a good romp to and fro looking out our sunroom windows. She loves her walks and would explore the whole farm if she could. After she was with us for about 3 hours she heard pheasants in the grove and gave out quite a bark. Last night we put her in the little travel kennel and locked her in but kept her in our bedroom with us. Just one little peep and then we all snoozed through the night. Thank you so much for all you do. I just really have a good feeling about her.
Warmest Wishes,
Paul and Sherry Benson (and Miss Bonnie)

Bark Bark! Hello second chance. That photo is of me and my brother Tootsie! I was adopted in May of 2009! I am Chi-Chi I am 9 years old now. Not only do I know how to dance, sit, shake, roll over and sit pretty. My new mom taught me how to dance with her! I will clap my paws together as she dances and tells me to dance! It is a blast. I was brought here with Daisy, but someone adopted her and I was left behind. Until my owner(mom) Dezzy rescued me! I love my new home. I have all sorts of room to run around. I really enjoy snuggling with her under the blankets at night. oh, I got a new brother! We play and run around together. Our favorite game is keep away! I am spoiled and I am very happy with my owner and brother! Thank you Second Chance for helping me find a wonderful, loving home. Bark Bark.

I'd had my dog Murphy for about 7 years when I decided to move back to Sioux Falls and thought she could use a friend. One day at work, a co-worker who volunteers at Second Chance brought in an incredibly cute and fluffy collie, golden retriever mix puppy to visit the kids we work with. It was love at first sight! I had a "hold" put on her right away and adopted her the next day. Finnleigh joined our family and has been an incredible dog. Along with Murphy she loves coming to work and playing with the kids and getting LOTS of extra attention. Often in the evenings the kids will put down blankets to make beds for the dogs or cover them up if they're already laying down. This past December Murphy had a health scare, and although she's alright, she is getting up there. She'll be ten this spring. Finnleigh still has a lot of play left in her and I thought she could use a friend closer to her age. I wasn't really putting much effort into looking, but decided one day to bring my mom out to Second Chance to look at some puppies I'd seen on the website. I never even made it back to look at the puppies, a little 2 year old lab mix named Polly caught my eye. When I walked into the room all of the dogs began jumping on their kennels and barking, except Polly, she was quietly sitting down and taking me in. She was so sweet when I bent down to "talk" to her, she leaned up against the kennel door and my hand and closed her eyes. I took her for an overnight visit and she had Finnleigh have been inseparable every since. Tegan (formerly Polly) has done remarkably well adjusting to her two sisters, her new mom and the kids at work. She loves getting to go with me to see the kids just as much as Murph and Finn, and she does so well with the kids! She also gets designated blanket beds in the evenings, and enjoys every cozy minute of it. Thank you for rescuing these two girls and keeping them safe until they found their home. You all do amazing work!
With love,
Murphy, Finnleigh, Tegan and Ondrea

“Holly”
Hi, my name is Holly. I was adopted in January and I am very content in my forever family. At first when I came home I was a little bit shy but Kim and Kevin were very patient with me and gave me lots of TLC. I love to play with toys and lay in my very own bed. I also love to look out the windows and watch what is going on in the neighborhood. When Kim calls me and says "scratchy back" I arch my back and wait to get scratched, it feels great and makes me purr and purr. I want to thank all the wonderful people at Second Chance for taking care of me and getting me together with my forever family.
Love,
Holly the cat
"Abbie"
Wanted to let you know that Abby the black lab we adopted almosta year ago is amazing!! She is such a wonderful addition to our family and we love herdearly. She is spoiled rotten and loves her extended family. She loves long walks and running through the dog pool in the summer and chasing the rabbits that sneak into ourback yard. Luckily she hasn't caught one yet!! She loves going to petsmart for her spaday and the girls love her there also. She is such a lovable dog and so glad we gother!! Plus she is super smart!! Nothing gets past her : ) Hugs,Veronica
"Twinkie"
We adopted Twinkie (formerly known as Runty) from SCRC of in November 2009. He is about 6 months now and can already find his way on top of the fridge! He is very energetic and LOVES to play. We spoil him with lots of love and lots of toys. There's no need to have an alarm clock anymore when we got Twinkie to come jumping on the bed nibbling at our feet in the mornings! When he decides to sleep on the bed he tends to hog the entire pillow!! He is just a wonderful, silly, fun, loving cat and we love him so. It's nice to know we got a friendly furry face waiting right by the door when we get home from a long hard day at work. We just wanted to thank Second Chance Rescue Center for giving us the chance to adopt such a precious kitty and to welcome him to our home.
~Kelsie and Brady~
Hello, My name is Prince. I was adopted sometime in May. I was in a litter of 3. I was Adopted by the Haislip's. I am very loved by them and very happy being with them. They might be back to Second Chance to look at more Kitties or maybe a dog. My owners love animals of all kinds. I am very spoiled and I am waiting for another playmate. I also wanted to say Happy be-lated Holidays to everyone at Second Chance and thank you for helping me find a loving home!
~Prince (the Cat)
We adopted Cooper in August, 2009. We knew that we were Cooper's third owners and, while he was shy at first, we were determined to be his forever home. Today, Cooper is living life as a dog should, playing, running and lounging. After being told that he had problems with other dogs he had previously lived with, we decided to socialize him at the dog park and he just blossomed! Cooper is so fun, and he is constantly making us laugh with all his little quirks. He is so smart and we have been able to teach him tricks (roll-over, beg, leave it and high-five) in a short amount of time. Thank you Second Chance for allowing us to adopt such a wonderful and happy dog!
- Amanda and Justin
Late one night, I did a search on scrcsd.org for "Shih Tzu". I was looking for a Shih Tzu to add to our family and was committed to a shelter or rescue. As the picture loaded I knew I had found a match. The next day, Chansey became Chance (to honor his "Second Chance") and he found his forever home. Chance enjoys the good life with his new brother, Rufus, and they have become like two peas in a pod. He is so sweet and our family adores him. Thank you Second Chance for the work you do and for being a safe haven for surrendered dogs. -The TenHaken Family, Sioux Falls
Hello!!
We just wanted to send you an update on how Buddy, a dog we adopted in July is doing. We adopted Buddy right before we moved up to Grand Forks, ND. My husband was deploying to Afghanistan and we wanted to have someone to keep me company while he was gone. Buddy has turned into the best dog, he is a snuggler! He loves the snow and now has a sister to play with who we adopted while in Grand Forks. We just wanted to thank you so much for helping us find Buddy, he is so special to my husband and me we are so greatful! Happy Holidays!
-The Langstraat Family
Hello! I wanted to thank you all for giving us such a wonderful dog! I adopted Xena in June and she's rarely left my side ever since. I've spoiled her rotten and in our house she treated like our little princess. She loves to play with squeaky toys and chase her stubby little tail. She keeps my boyfriend and I company when one of us is gone and sleeps with us every night in our bed. I don't know what I would do without her now. Thank you again for all that you do for animals and from Xena and I...MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Sasha's happy ending.
We adopted Sasha when she was 6 Years old we have had her now for about 5 months. We moved into an apartment and had both recently had dogs but our apartment would not allow them. One day we recieved notice that our apartment building was the only building in the complex that was able to have dogs so we made the decision to look. We started off at the Sioux Falls Humane Society and could not find any dog we were allowed to have so we thought of Second Chance. We walked around and took some of the dogs out with us to play. As we took Sasha out she was full of energy and she obeyed really well and that was very impressive and once she obeyed Joey i knew there was no choice but to get her. With her being gun shy she is not a good hunter but she has brought so much joy to our lives and completes our family. With being a young couple she is a great companion. Thank you for letting us adopt her and make her part of her our family we appreciate it and Sasha appreciates it.

We adopted Bailey whe she was 3 months old. We had her for about 4 months, and she was just too much for our other dog Philly, so we gave her back to Second Chance.
One day a few months later, my aunt saw that she was at Second Chance again and she had been in some training. She sent the picture of Bailey to my mom, and my mom sent it to my dad. We knew she was meant to be ours. We agreed on making some changes at home and my dad and brother went and got her. That same day when I got home Bailey was there. I got down on the floor and hugged her while she licked me to death. She loves to run in our backyard, and play tug-a-war with my brother and I, she literally pulls us across the floor. She is a piece of work and she needs a lot more training but, she is just a puppy. She and Philly have become friends and we love her so much. She is a great gift to our household. Now she is a great joy and we will be having our fist Christmas with her soon. Thanks for letting us adopt her back!
Sincerely,
Taylor Thompson☺♪ ♫
Age: 12
I have been volunteering at Second Chance for almost two years now. I walk dogs and this is how I found out that I have a love and passion for big dogs, especially labs. Growing up, we always had small dogs. I always try to walk the dogs who have been there the longest, so it is very easy to become attached to them. That is how we adopted Cloe and Ruby.
We adopted Cloe, a 2 year old border collie/beagle mix in February of 2008. When I looked in her eyes, that was it. I had to do some talking, but I finally brought her home to meet our other two "furry" kids-Max, a 13 year old rat terrier and Penny, an 11 year old miniature daschund. I wasn't sure how it would go, but things went better then I thought, and with a few adjustments for everyone, including the two human kids and husband, Cloe fit in perfectly. She is the one who watches over the yard for rabbits and squirrels and she is always the last one to come in the house because she has to "herd" everyone back in the house. She is very protective of all of us and lets us know if someone is here. But she knows that Max is the "king" of the house and respects that. She has to go for a walk everyday, so she can get some of her "herding" energy out and she also can be a couch potato and just lay around with the other dogs and relax. We are grateful to have her in our family and we thought she made our family complete, but we weren't finished quite yet.
Then came Ruby, a seven year old black lab who was at Second Chance for almost four months. She was shy and timid, her tail would never go up when I walked her. Slowly, I started to realize that she belonged with us. So in June 2009, Ruby came home. I was very careful to introduce her to everyone else, I had to be especially careful to let her eat by herself. But again, we all adjusted. Max, Cloe and Penny are showing her how to be social and do doggy things. She still gets shy around people she doesn't know, but I am seeing more and more of her personality come out every day! At first I thought she would be an outside dog, because the people who brought her in said she was. She wouldn't have any of that! She had to be by the other dogs and do what they were doing, so now she is definitely an inside dog and sleeps on the floor by the bed. I think she is a little dog in a big dog's body, because every time I sit down she has to be right there, on your lap. She likes to help Cloe patrol the back yard and when they hear the dogs behind the fence, she helps by barking a few times just to let them know she is there. She doesn't bark very much any other time. She likes to play with the ball and we are trying to teach her how to play fetch. She loves to go for walks and we get some alone time when we go. And by the way, she walks with her tail up now! Ruby is another perfect fit for our family. Thank you Second Chance for keeping our two girls until we could have them complete our family.
Deb and Kevin Booker and our "family"
Last Spring, when I heard about all the dogs that were rescued from a puppy mill near Flandreau, SD , my heart went out to all of those dogs. When I discovered that most of the rescued dogs were Bichons, I felt that my McKenzie was barking to me from Dog Heaven and telling me that I needed to step forward and help her fellow Bichons!!
It was on a Saturday, and my husband, daughter and I went into a room of the rescued dogs. We knew that the dogs needed to be socialized and therefore we took two dogs that seemed anxious to see us. The little girl puppy took her chew toy threw it up in the air, threw it sideways and she proceeded to have lots of fun playing with her new toy – incredible! She had such a sparkle in her eyes and you could tell that she had a great personality and a sense of humor. It was too soon when we had to leave Second Chance and go home.
During the next few days , I kept thinking about the little girl Bichon puppy who was so goofy!! On Wed. night, my daughter and I went to Second Chance to see if she was still there. We swooped her out of her crate and took her to the office. I asked if I could fill out Foster Parent forms and then the little puppy went home with us.
After some tender love and care, we ended up with a very well fed, healthy and spoiled puppy. We celebrated when all of her stained hair was cut off by her groomer and she was a white Bichon. She adapted easily to our daily routine. She loved to lay outside in the grass and look up at the sky…it appeared that she was thanking the heavens for her new and wonderful life. Our other 2 boy dogs were very good with her and they moved aside when she wanted to eat, drink and sleep with them. Champ and Murphy showed her puppy manners for living inside and outside of the house.
We waited for months to see what the court ending would be with the puppy mill. And, in the meantime we looked to see who would be the best family to recommend to Second Chance as her forever family. There were those that expressed interest in adopting Lucy along the way but for one reason or the other, it never worked out. Then, it came to the point where the judge said that the puppy mill puppies had waited too long in limbo and that all the puppies were released – yeah!!! After nurturing little Lucy and watching her turn into a wonderful little puppy, we decided that the best home for Lucy was here with us.
Lucy has turned into a beautiful little girl Bichon and she is now 8 months old. She is very smart, outgoing, inquisitive, and playful. She has finished her obedience class lessons and we continue to train her. She is my little shadow that follows me everywhere! We have two othe(rescued) dogs at home and Lucy is very attached to our younger dog Champ and they play all day long. Murphy wasn’t too excited about another young dog but he has learned to be somewhat tolerant with her attempts to get his attention.
Thank you Second Chance for saving all these dogs from a life sentence of misery. It makes me cry when I think of what Lucy’s life might have been like if Second Chance hadn’t rescued her from the puppy mill. Thank goodness she is home and safe with us.

Hello! I just wanted to share a little about how happy we are with our baby kitty we adopted from SCRC at the end of October. I grew up in a household with lots of rescue/shelter pets (I almost always had two dogs and two cats), and so I knew that as soon as I had my own place, I would want a rescue pet as well. Since my husband and I are living in rental property, we thought it'd be great to start with a cat. My husband has never been much of a cat person, but our little kitten "Nina" melted his heart right away! We got "Nina" (formerly "Ginger") about a month ago. She is about 4 months old now, and has so much personality! She loves to snuggle and purr, but also loves to play! She will fly through the air and do acrobatic flips after her feather toys! We quickly learned that Nina LOVES watching water. She is fascinated by the shower, and loves sitting in the sinks around our house, just waiting for the water to drip. We are so grateful for this little fluffy bundle of joy. Thank you for rescuing her and allowing her to be a part of our little family. She is perfect, and we love her!
Best, Whitney, Paul, and Nina :)
Hi! My name is Leeza, I'm a yellow lab/golden retriever/collie mix. I was adopted about 2 years ago, and I wanted to let you know what I have been doing since then at my forever home:
- sleeping between my human parents in a king-sized bed every night!
- going for rides. I've been in a pick-up, combine, tractor, and grain truck!
- keeping a very close eye on my farm. My human dad nicknamed me "moof" because I'm
very protective of my property and I like to "moof" at strange people and cars and animals!
- learning tricks and commands, because I am so smart!
- sleeping in. Some dogs like to wake their owners up at 5 am to go potty. Not me! I like
to be lazy and snooze until 10 am, if my parents will let me.
I also want to let everyone know not to overlook us big, adult dogs when adopting a new pet. You might just end up with a pre-potty-trained sweetheart who fits perfectly into your family!
Hannah is doing very well. I think everyone would be surprised at her progress. She has adjusted to her life in the city very well, but still enjoys being outside. She loves attention and is a great companion. Hannah has a sister and a brother at home that she has grown to love. They all get along very well and she will lick them to tell her siblings she cares. Right now Hannah is still kind of shy, but I see a lot of potential in her and she changes more and more every day. I love to see her tail wag and when she runs around in excitement. I am very happy that Hannah has come to like my home. We couldn't imagine life without her here. All of my babies are special and Hannah is the cherry on top. Thank you Second Chance for saving Hannah and allowing us to welcome her into our home. Sincerely, Michelle and Alaire
Rusty is definitely part of the family! We knew the minute we saw him at Second Chance that he was for us. He gets along with everyone! He lets Murphy ( Our Wheaton Terrier who doesn’t like to lose) win every game. When he isn’t out making sure there aren’t any rabbits, squirrels, or birds touching the grass in our yard, he is usually pressed up against one of the kids or napping on their bed waiting for them to return from school. He LOVES riding in the car and exploring on walks. The only place he isn’t welcome to nap is the leather couch in the living room. He is smart enough to know to jump off this couch as soon as he hears me pull up in the driveway. His secret is given away by the warm spot on the couch and the fact that the throw pillows are scattered across the floor! His soulful eyes make it impossible to be mad at him. It is difficult to imagine our family without Rusty Thank you Second Chance for the opportunity to adopt him!

Hi everyone,
Remember me? I was adopted almost a year ago by the Matthies family. I want to let you know that I am a very happy dog. I have 10 acres to run on and lots of friends here. As you can see in the picture this is my little brother Clyde. He was also adopted. We have a lot of fun playing together. There is also a horse named Sakota, two goats named Dusty and Dandy, and a bunch of cats to play with. Everyone is friendly and we all get along just fine. My family takes good care of all of us. They like to brush me a lot, which I enjoy very much. They have plenty of love for all of us to go around.
I just want to say Thank You for letting me go home with them.
Don't worry, I am in good hands. - Dillinger
We adopted Lilly and Abby and they have fit in perfectly, making friends with or other cats, ferrets, mouse, and gerbil right away. They got to meet the dogs but aren't sure about them. Abby has found a new hobby she sits on the coffee table watching the fish tank wondering how she is going to get them for a snack. Lilly likes to lay between the gerbil and mouse cages to catch all the action going on. They both have joined the other cats when dad comes home for the weekend to get special treats, you can hear the meows throughout the house. Words can not express the THANKS we want to pass on to SCRC for not giving up on Lilly, to the volunteer who made Lilly's cat tree it is truly awesome and to the foster family for all the love they gave to both of them. We enjoy every minute with our animals and love them all the same.
Thanks for letting Lilly and Abby join our family,
The Anderson Family

Hi to all my friends at Second Chance! I am Patch (aka Fluffy), thank you for taking care of me, especially Jean. I came to my new home in May 2009 and I like my new home, and my new best friend enjoys having me around, except when I wake her up at 5am. I really enjoy the tummy rubs, looking out the window at the birds and squirrels that come to the feeder, and the sink (whether at the vet or at home). Just thought you would like to know I am doing fine and happy!
We had been looking for a Husky pup for a while with no luck. We already have a German Shepard. So we tried other breeds, and adopted a beautiful purebred pitbull. Needless to say he and zena did not get along…at all. So our search continued. Then we get a call from Cheryl telling us about the husky pup that second chance took in. Someone dumped the little guy, he was only about 6 weeks old. L So 3 hours after he came in we went to the rescue center and filled out the paperwork to foster him, and we fell in love. Enzo has been an awesome edition to our growing family. Zena loves him and they wrestle, run, and snuggle all the time. Enzo is growing very fast and learning even faster, he is a very smart puppy. Now he is about 13 weeks at the time of this email, and about 9 to 10 weeks in the pictures. Thanx to Cheryl and everyone at second chance for taking him in and helping him find us.
Kind regards
Chad, Kristina, Zena, and Enzo Callies
Hi Second Chance! I’m Daisy and went to my forever home on May, 11 2009. I first lived with my grandparents for three weeks until my parents finished moving which was a lot of fun. I got to play, play, play in the country and run around!! It was so much fun! I then joined my mommy and daddy in Ames, Iowa. I had three previous homes before my humans came for me, and they can’t figure out why. They say I’m a really sweet dog, even though I can get into a little trouble sometimes. (I’ve chewed some of mommy’s shoes, her MP3 player, and daddy’s Playstation Remote, but it’s because I have separation anxiety, which we are working on.) I am a very smart girl and am learning tricks, and fetching. I still pull on my leash a little, but I am getting better. I am a huge cuddlebug, and like to sleep with my parents. When mommy sleeps on the couch, I lay on the top cushion but since I’m too big, I end up laying on her face. My absolute favorite place to sit though is the bay window in our living room. I get to watch everyone walk by and all the neighborhood dogs.
I love to play and wrestle. My favorite toys are my tug rope, my laser light, and my squeaky toys. I love rawhide bones, Beggin’ Strips, and I LOVE ice cubes. I run to the refrigerator every time I hear the ice cube dispenser. Walks are so much fun!! There are lots of dogs to play with, and bunnies everywhere! I want to chase them but mom and dad won’t let me. I think the bunnies are just making fun of me. Darn rabbits. I also love my bandanas wear them all the time because I look so cute in them.
I am so happy to be in my new home! Thank you Second Chance for taking good care of me and finding my humans for me!!

I am a volunteer at Second Chance and a couple months I walked " Sandie". She was an all around great dog and everytime I went back, I was surprised to find her still at the shelter. I thought for sure someone would adopt her. When I was at home I found myself thinking more and more about her and on several occasions, I drove out to second chance just to make sure she got her daily walk. Last week I called Second Chance and asked If I could take Sandie home for the weekend just to get her out of the shelter and into a normal family setting. They said yes and during the weekend my whole family fell in love with her. She fits in so well and Monday morning we offically made her part of our family. We changed her name to Sundae because she's so sweet. Thank you Second Chance for all that you do. We promise to love and take care of Sundae for the rest of her life.
We adopted Roscoe (formerly Dexter), he was rescued from a puppy mill and was very timid. Roscoe was groomed and neutered within the first week that he came to live with us. His best friend is now Bo, a 17 month old black lab. Bo has taught Roscoe to go up and down the stairs and to play tug-o-war with their toys. They are inseparable. Roscoe is such a happy boy now. He runs and plays all day long and gets to sleep in the bed cuddled next to Daddy. Thank you Second Chance for doing such a wonderful job with these precious animals that were once neglected and unloved. Roscoe will definitely have a wonderful life.
Shayla has a story to tell for people to educate themselves on breeds of dogs. Dogs are not just dogs,
they are individual breeds with traits and even when mixed these traits carry on with them. Education is key to know what to expect and how to help train the dog to deal with those traits because sometimes they are not always a good trait. Such as Shayla being a typical Weim. High energy, jumping on people, chewing everything in site, prey drive, and co-dependency. All manageable if trained to manage them. You have to educate yourself and ask yourself if you are ready to deal with the problems. To many dogs end up in shelters because it's easier to try and find that dog already trained then to dedicate your time to a puppy and train them. Good dogs don't just happen, they are a result of training, guidance and direction.
I want to thank Second Chance Rescue for giving Shayla so many chances.
What was it? I think I was her fourth home by nine months? You didn't give up on her. It took her awhile but she finally found the right family with patience and dedication.
THANK YOU! We love her.
Courtney
I knew I was looking for a small dog but didn't really see any so I asked someone who worked there if they had any small dogs. He took us to a room that had about 6-7 miniature pinchers. I looked around and saw a small min-pin in a cage just sitting there looking at me. The guy that took us back there told us that he didn't have a name but he called him Little Dude because he was one of the smallest ones. So we took him out and played with him and I decided I really wanted to take him home for a while to see how it would work out. My boyfriend and I couldn't think of a name for him at first but then my boyfriend started calling him "Chico" which I wanted to name him Prancer cause he actually hops around when he runs. Well "Chico" it was. About a week later we went back with him and adopted him. I actually got the full story on why he was rescued to poor little guy. We also took him to Illinois recently and he was so good in the car. When we reached Illinois he was a little sketchy but he got along well with the other dogs and my cat. He barks at people he doesn't know but he warms up to people after awhile. He loves to play around and he is just a goofy little dog.The first night with "Chico" he jumped right up on my bed and curled right underneath the blanket. He loves to lay right next to me, and just go sound asleep. I got attached to him automatically, and I don't know what I would do without my fun loving little dog. I am so glad I adopted him, and if I had to do it again he would always be the dog that I would have picked.
Hi! My family adopted a Border Collie-Australian Shepherd mix puppy last year in June. So, I thought you guys might want to see how much Mandy has changed in the last year. Mandy loves work, and she is very full of energy! For awhile she liked t
o latch on to some of the cows tails and go for a ride! Now she has settled to just herding/chasing/biting their noses. When she is not running around in the cattle yard she is resting or playing with us. And she absolutely LOVES tummy rubs! As soon as someone that she knows gets out of the car, she will crawl over to them and roll onto her back for them to rub her belly. Also she likes to try to herd us together while we are walking. That is a funny thing to watch! We all love her very much and we're glad we got Mandy!

I adopted Nico (formerly Dante) in November 2008. I had previously had an Italian Greyhound and spent months looking everywhere for another one, so as soon as I saw three Italian Greyhound puppies on the website I rushed down there! At first things were a little rough. We made several trips to the vet treating different different infections we had, but after a few months we finally got things under control. He has become best buddies with our other Italian Greyhound, Enzo. They spend hours upon hours chasing each other around and LOVE to go to the dog park. Nico has become quite the speed deamon. He runs circles around all of the other dogs. Every night at bedtime they both come running into the bedroom and crawl underneath all of the covers and cuddle up next to each other. Nico provides us with hours of entertainment. I don't know what I would do without the little guy now!
